Making the mold for master mold
To ensure a perfect fit, I 3D print a 18% scaled-up mold for the teapot, serving as a precise reference for the artisans to create the master mold. The Porcelain used for the teapot shrinks when it nears its completion. While some product components are still in development, this particular part is designed for single-step production. The handle and lid holder will follow a separate manufacturing process, optimizing efficiency and reducing complexity.
For the cup, I previously sanded all parts to achieve an almost glossy finish. This time, I’ll leave the surface as it comes straight from the printer, allowing the artisans to refine the mold instead. Since the mold material is significantly softer, this approach minimizes unnecessary effort while maintaining control over the final texture—aligning with lean principles by reducing waste and streamlining production.
